The Society for Psychoanalytic Studies is a
community of mental health professionals-- of all disciplines --
dedicated to promoting a broader view of psychotherapy. Members of SPS
understand that psychotherapy is accomplished through more than
attending to cognition and behavior, but requires attention to affect,
psyche, and interpersonal dynamics as well.
SPS
is a local chapter of Division 39 of the American Psychological
Association -- a division devoted to the study and practice of
psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and psychoanalytic
theory. The Society promotes its interests through conferences,
workshops, public forums, and through our association with the
Minnesota Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalytic Studies -- a local
psychoanalytic training institute.
Members
of SPS find stimulating, practical training opportunities, along with
fellowship in a community of like-minded professionals. The society is
committed to a broad and modern view of psychoanalytic theory,
embracing its rich history as well as exciting new developments in
psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The membership
includes students & newcomers to the ideas of dynamic theory, as
well as highly experienced therapists and analysts. This diverse
amalgam gives SPS its special character, with all members benefiting
from the multiplicity of viewpoints.
